John Eckbold was born in 1989, 12 weeks early weighing 2 lbs 13 oz., with a birth defect of the spine called Spina Bifida. Within hours of birth his first of many surgeries was performed to try and repair his spine. Since birth John has had over 32 surgeries from head to toe in an attempt to improve all health issues related to his Spina Bifida. In 2009 John once again underwent a surgery to replace a shunt doctors had placed in his head to relieve pressure caused by his spinal fluid. This was the sixth time in his life this procedure was repeated. After the surgery John spent 5 days in a coma, he awoke to the reality that his short term memory was lost. He was then diagnosed with multiple tramatic brain injuries and Post Tramatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), caused by the surgeries and numerous hospitalizations, he does not let any of that keep him down.
"I decided my disability was not going to stop me from acheiving my goals. My verse to live by is Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who Strengthens me" John Eckbold.
In 2013 John had the vision to start his own welding business. The vision blossomed into Flying J Metal Arts & Fabrication. John started simply making decorative art from old, recycled horse shoes. Since then his business has grown into a full service welding shop, custom CNC plasma cutting, powder coating, and other custom fabrication work.
This is truly a family business with John, his parents Connie & Harold, cousins Kevin & Chris and the rest of the family, who have all helped make the business a reality. Each family member has responsabilities at Flying J from either production in the shop or assisting with our online presence including the website and social media.
The Eckbold family works hard to produce top quality products and to meet the needs of all customers.
